Music Department Concert Tour to Belgium 2018

7th-10th July

Music Department Concert Tour to Belgium

After our highly successful concert tour in Germany last July, the Music Department is going to run a second tour to Belgium during activities week 2018. If your child sings or plays a musical instrument (or is signing up to start playing an instrument) they are eligible to come on this trip. The pupils who came on last year’s trip had an amazing time, performed two brilliant concerts and really improved as performers as a result of being involved in the tour.

The proposed itinerary for the trip is as follows. This may change slightly but the list below will give you a good idea of what to expect.

Saturday 7th July:
Depart from school for journey by coach and ferry (late afternoon). Arrive at our hostel, near Brugges.  Afternoon walking or cycling in a local forest park and rehearsing at the hostel.
Sunday 8th July:
Concert number one will be in one of the beautiful squares that are a feature of the architecturally stunning town of Brugges. After this we will go on a boat trip along the local canals and also go and see some of the famous Belgian chocolate being made. There will be opportunities to taste and buy! After a little tine to explore we will then go and spend a few hours on the beach at the seaside town of Ostende.
Monday 9th July:
We will pop over the border into Holland for concert number two which will be in the bandstand at the fantastic Die Efteling theme park. After we have performed we will spend the rest of the day enjoying the rides and attractions at the theme park. Later in the evening we will have a party, evening talent show and prize giving at the open air theatre at our hostel.
Tuesday 10th July:
A half day to explore, shop for some gifts and relax in the beautiful town of Ghent before returning home to the UK in the evening.

The pupils who came on last year’s trip had an amazing time, performed two brilliant concerts and really improved as performers as a result of being involved in the tour, below is some feedback:

"The warm feeling of community and optimism was so refreshing. Everyone here is very talented and it makes me happy to be surrounded with people like this."

"Personally my favourite musical moment was creating a band with my three best mates  (in a few years we’ll be platinum) and enjoying playing with the whole group."

"Everyone worked together really well in all the pieces and all encouraged each other when performing which helps lift the mood even more. Everyone was included."

If you have any queries, or questions, please do not hesitate to contact school.
