History

Mr J Gillan - Head of Department

Welcome to the History Department

Understanding History helps you to:

  • Know More - become curious and passionate about the History of Britain and the wider world.
  • Look Closer - uses sources and interpretations to find out more about the past.
  • Think Deep - Ask questions to understand how events have shaped the world you live in.
  • Write Better - Answer history questions clearly, with accurate knowledge and terminology.

The History Department at Altrincham College attempts to fire students' curiosity and imagination, moving and inspiring them with the dilemmas, choices and beliefs of people in the past, and ultimately leading them to discover and evaluate how these events have shaped and evolved the society we live in today.

Students will study History throughout Key Stage 3 and for those who have shown aptitude and interest, this can be followed by study at Key Stage 4, and Key Stage 5 (See links for further details).

The department team consists of three members of staff. These are:

History helps students to develop their own identities through an understanding of the subject at personal, local, national and international levels.

It enables them to ask and answer questions of the present by engaging with the past. Teachers communicate infectious enthusiasm for the subject.

The Departmental motto is to "engage, enquire and encourage."
