Reading in Form Time

Reading in Form Time:

We promote a love of reading by introducing students to a wide range of genres, texts and authors which reflect our ethos and allow students to reflect and grow.

Across Years 7-10, students are immersed in twenty-minute reading sessions, twice a week.  Form tutors use the teacher-modelled reading strategy to interest and motivate students which involves students listening to a text read aloud by an expert reader.

The reader models skilled behaviour when reading in a range of different types of text and styles of writing.  At the end of each book, students are given the opportunity to submit a book review for the half-term school reading newsletter.

By exposing students to a wide range of literature away from a traditional English classroom, we encourage them to develop a depth of knowledge that supports students to comprehend independently and provides them with the motivation to continue to read widely themselves.
