Dear Parents, Carers and Students

I hope you and your families had a wonderful Christmas and are now looking forward to a New Year that brings health and happiness swiftly.

I wanted to update you on the new term following the Government's announcement yesterday afternoon. There are some slight changes to my communication to you before Christmas.

We have kept our INSET day as Monday 4th January but from Tuesday 5th - Friday 8th January we will only be open to vulnerable and key worker children. All other students should remain at home. A small number of 6th form students have exams to prepare for, and they will be contacted separately about attending school.

You will know by now if your child/ward has a vulnerable/key worker place and any further students will unfortunately need to be placed on a waiting list. This is because students will be learning online and we must ensure all have access to IT for learning in school.

Year 11 and 13 students will now return to school for face-to-face teaching from Monday 11th January and the remaining year groups will return on Monday 18th January.

Vulnerable and key worker students will be in school throughout from 5th January and will go back into their normal routine with their class groups from the 18th. This phased return is to allow our school to set up its testing base and to train relevant staff.
Remote Learning from Tuesday 5th January.

Students in all year groups will receive remote learning as per their normal Week 2 timetable from Tuesday 5th January. This will be delivered via MS Teams and invitations to join lessons will be sent out by staff. Staff will deliver 30-35 mins of each lesson online with their class. There may then be follow-up work to complete before the next virtual lesson.
We will need to keep this situation constantly under review as there may be training sessions which staff will need to attend and these may impact upon online lessons. If an online lesson has to be cancelled for any reason, staff will ensure your child has a task set via MS Teams.

Students who are due to sit vocational exams should come into school for those exams as originally planned. Further information will be sent out regarding this very shortly.

Lunches will be provided in school for all students however there will be a much reduced menu in light of low numbers in school for the first two weeks of term.  Students in receipt of free school meals who are remaining at home will have either food parcels or vouchers distributed.

Thank you to parents/carers who have completed the Google Form sent out last term to give your consent to testing your child(ren)/ward(s). The latest DfE guidance now states that you must also consent to "self-swabbing" with supervision for 11-16 year olds; 16-19 year olds will not need supervision unless deemed necessary. Please see the information poster and NHS guidance below which explain self-swabbing.

By completing the Google Form, you will be consenting to self-swabbing. If you have already returned the form but do not now give consent in light of this new information, please email headteacher@altrinchamcollege.com giving your child's full name, DOB and form group and stating that you wish to retract your consent.

If you have not already completed the form, please do so here: https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=rjdJiPkPDk-HP_xNeIBos_aiXvsTfGtBrqd5_h_F_HpUOUZPSVpPQzcyR09ZRTJOQUhGOUtFVTRUUS4u

Further information and updates will be sent out from next week but please can I thank you for all your support this year.

Happy New Year!

Kind regards
Ms K Earle
