Year 7

Year 7

The transition into Year 7 and the first year of secondary school can be challenging. Before students join us, we hold an annual induction day where students can experience what a normal day will be like when they officially join us here at Altrincham College. Students are sent a variety of tasks to complete in preparation for Year 7. Some of these include filling in a pupil passport, challenges and quizzes. We also hold some additional transition sessions for students who are identified as needing some additional support during this significant change in their lives. Therefore, the Year 7 pastoral programme allows students to begin to develop key skills that they will continue to build on for many years in the future.

Students participate in structured form time sessions with their form tutor that involves activities such as building on their numeracy and literacy skills, holding group discussions about current affairs, practising mindfulness, developing their reading skills and participate in a weekly quiz. Students also have a weekly assembly where they are able to learn about and reflect on topics many of which may affect students in different ways.

Form tutors take the oppotunity to discuss with students thier progress based on data from class teachers and school reports.

Students are also frequently rewarded throughout the year for a variety of different reasons in different ways. These reasons include having the most positive points, being a standout member of their form, being a role model, their attendance figure or their attitudinal score.
