Thursday 26th March

Dear Parents/Carers,

STAY SAFE; STAY AT HOME

This will be the final bulletin of the week and I will resume on Monday.

Staff at AC have been working hard again today to provide a great day’s worth of activities for our students. The weather meant that they were outside most of the time, making the most of it! Please encourage your child to bring some homework with them each day so that they can keep going with their work ethic. There will still be plenty of time for all the other activities on offer.

I hope that for those students staying at home, there is accessible work which they are enjoying completing. I am fully aware that whilst students are being given tasks which are meaningful, whilst they have contact via email with their subject teachers and pastoral staff, they are not being ‘taught’. We will continue to do our utmost to ensure students are learning, that we support them as much as possible, remotely, and we will ‘teach’ as best we can under the circumstances. For students in Y10 and Y12, I am hopeful that this loss of time in school will be borne in mind by Ofqual and the DfE when it’s their turn to sit exams. I will certainly be lobbying them about this in order to support our students as much as possible.

Heads of Learning will shortly send out ‘assemblies’. Please encourage your child to discuss these with you. Staff are also considering ways in which we can ‘reward’ students for their hard work, helping the family or just by doing as asked when asked (my favourite!). We will keep you posted on our progress via the bulletin. Let us know if your child has been a hero recently!

School will be open all of next week and through what would have been the first week of the Easter holidays (until Thursday 9th April). We will not be open on Good Friday or Easter Monday.

Please let Mrs Shields know (by telephone to school or email: dss@altrinchamcollege.com) if you require provision Tuesday 14 - Friday 17 April, as our school will be closed but we can secure a place for our students at another local school.  We need to know as soon as possible so that we can liaise with other schools. If a student does need to go to another school that week, a member of AC staff will be there with them all day.

To close, I would like to say a huge ‘thank you’ to our caretaking, catering, admin, IT and cleaning staff who have been working so hard this week to ensure everything runs as smoothly as possible for our staff and students. We couldn’t open the school without them.  You are wonderful!

Enjoy your evening; stay safe and have a lovely weekend.

Kind regards,

Ms Kim Earle
