BBC Radio 2's 500 Words Competition

A fantastic opportunity for Year 7 & 8 pupils

Can you write an amazing story using no more than 500 words?

This is a shout out to all our Year 7 and Year 8 pupils!  BBC Radio 2's '500 Words' competition has returned.  It's the world's biggest short-story writing competition for under 13's and we'd love our talented pupils to have a go!

The prizes are amazing:

As well attending a spectacular 500 Words Final from Hampton Court Palace, where superstar celebrities will read the winning stories live on the radio, winners will also enjoy a ride around the Hampton Court Palace grounds in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang PLUS tea on the Thames aboard Her Majesty The Queen’s rowbarge, Gloriana!

The winners in each age category will also receive:

  • Gold Winners – Chris Evans’ height in books (plus 500 books for their school)
  • Silver Winners – HRH The Duchess of Cornwall’s height in books
  • Bronze Winners – Their own height in books

How do I enter?

You have to enter online via the BBC Radio 2 website.  You can either enter at home or via your English teachers or librarian.  The deadline for entries is 7pm, Thursday 22nd February 2018.

As an added incentive, the library will also be running a competition, choosing a winning story from our School.

Ready, set, get writing!  Don't forget to email a copy of your finished story to lwr@mail.altrinchamcollege.com.  Good luck!
