Headteacher's bulletin

Friday 24th June 2022

Friday 24th June.

Dear Parents and Carers,

Year 13 and Year 11 leavers

This week has seen most of our students in Years 11 and 13 finish their GCSEs and A-levels. There are just a couple more exams next week for some students and then they have finished either for the summer or altogether!

Today we had a delicious buffet to mark the occasion for Y13s and then held our Sixth Form Leavers’ Assembly. As you may expect, there was a slideshow of photographs from when the Y13s were in Y7, which made them cringe, a short speech from myself and a personalised poem from Mrs Brennan. Many awards were also presented.

It was a lovely afternoon to mark the end of an educational journey. They will all now embark on the next stage of their lives with further and higher education, apprenticeships or entry in the world of work!! I sincerely hope they remember Altrincham College with fond memories and affection. I hope that during their time here they have learned how to deal with life’s challenges and how hard work really does pay off.

Alumni News

It was wonderful to welcome former student Harry to school this week.  Harry is a second year Law student at the University of York.  He spoke to our A Level Law students about his course, the university application process and what university study and student life is really like!  After graduation, Harry hopes to continue his studies with a Masters in Art Law.  Well done Harry, it is fantastic to hear about your achievements!

Thank you to former student Dean, who owns Atlantic Renewables in Altrincham.  He visited school on Wednesday to talk to students in Years 10-13 about his career path and also the career opportunities, apprenticeships and work experience that may be available at his company in the future.

Preloved Uniform

We will most gratefully accept any items of school uniform, PE kits, school shoes and dark-coloured winter coats you may wish to donate to school once your child leaves. Our Parents’ Association have volunteered to oversee the stocktake of donated uniform and to help us oversee their distribution. These items will then either be donated to struggling families or will be sold for a small donation at school events.

Please send items into school in a bin bag and hand in at Reception. The Y11 Leavers’ Assembly is next week on the 30th and this may be a good day to donate any items not being worn that day (or being signed!).

I know children grow a lot over the summer holiday so we would also welcome items your child has outgrown in September too. Thank you very much.

Student Star of the Week

This week is…….Jorja D-G in Year 10! Jorja has successfully secured a place on a 2-day summer school at the Northern Ballet School in Manchester! The Northern Ballet School is an international centre of excellence in training for classical ballet and musical theatre. The summer course offers Jorja a taste of what that ballet training is really like!

Jorja will also get to watch the NBS Summer Show dress rehearsal. Even though Jorja is a Year 10 student she has been looking at dance colleges already as she can apply as early as September/October when she has to audition. Well done Jorja!

Our Staff Star this week is Ms Bruckshaw our Pastoral Support Manager who has organised, along with the LGBTQ+Space group, an amazing Diversity Week this week!

Ms Bruckshaw’s bright, cheerful and positive attitude has really impressed her colleagues and they think she’s doing an amazing job! Well done Ms Bruckshaw!

I hope you and your families have a wonderful weekend!

Thank you for your continued support of our school.

Ms K Earle
