Headteacher's Bulletin

Friday 10 June 2022

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope you all had a wonderful half-term and that your child(ren) are pleased to be back in school again?!

You will notice a slight change to our school logo in this bulletin! Our Pride/LGBTQ+ week is scheduled for 20-24 June and to celebrate the LGBQT+ club have organised a range of activities including a quiz for form time, a drop-in session (Wednesday lunchtime, Sixth Form LRC), a rainbow cake sale (Thursday, under the canopy – cake donations welcome!) and a non-uniform day for staff and students (Friday – rainbow colours).

Money raised from the cake sale and non-uniform day will be donated to the Albert Kennedy Trust which supports young homeless people in Manchester (with particular support offered to LGBQT+ young people).

Exams

Y11 and Y13 continue to do their utmost in exams – we are all very proud of them! Please can I ask you to remind your child that full school uniform is still expected for Y11 and this includes no make-up, jewellery or trainers. Thank you.

Careers Update

Next month (date to be confirmed) we will be highlighting ‘Careers with Animals’ in school! Visitors will come in to talk with students about their careers and there may even be some animals here too! If your child is interested in such a career, let us know! More information to follow from Ms Mitchelmore.

Uniform changes from September 2022

You will by now have seen the new updated uniform list for September which aims to ensure cheaper, more affordable items of uniform for our students. The main price reduction has come from removing logos from certain items and by selecting pieces from supermarkets rather than solely our uniform suppliers, Monkhouse and Petites Modes.

If you child has a logoed item of clothing which can be worn next year, this DOES NOT need to be replaced with a non-logoed item of uniform. If, however, your child needs a new item of uniform because it is too small or worn out, then you now have the option of replacing it with a cheaper version without the logo. Please see our website for more details: https://www.altrinchamcollege.com/information/uniform-and-pe-kit

Enrichment at Altrincham College

Our clubs continue after school and we still have late buses running for the remainder of the term Monday to Thursday. Please encourage your child to take up the marvellous opportunities to ‘be in your element’! You can see what we offer on our website here: https://www.altrinchamcollege.com/enrichment

Student Stars of the Week this week are…….Carys A in Year 8 and Daryna S in Year 10!  Carys is part of the Greater Manchester Schools Girls under 14 squad who are playing Durham in the Northern Counties Schools Cup Final at Stockport Sports Village at 3pm on Saturday 11th June. She's already played v Cheshire, Lancashire and Merseyside in the North West group (they won all matches to finish top of the group) and also v Cleveland in the semi-final.

The team is actually a Year 9 team so Carys is one of few players actually playing in the team a year early! Congratulations Carys we are very proud of you!

Daryna is a student who consistently goes over and above to help others. She is bi-lingual and earlier this week did a fabulous job simultaneously translating conversations to our new Ukrainian students! What a talent! We are incredibly grateful to Daryna for her help in making these new students feel so welcome and at ease!

Our Staff Star this week is Ms Weston our new Catering Manager! Since starting with us, she has been going above and beyond to revamp school menus and work on new improvement strategies with her team. Well done Ms Weston from all of your colleagues!

I hope you and your families have a wonderful weekend! Here’s to some sunshine!

Thank you for your continued support of our school.
