Headteacher’s Bulletin

Friday 18th March 2022

Dear Parents and Carers,

We have had a wonderful week thinking of others whilst raising much needed funds for Ukraine and for Comic Relief. The students and staff have really gone all-out to play a part. Thank you to parents and carers who are also supporting this by donating via ParentPay.

Comic Relief and Support for Ukraine

Today students celebrated Comic Relief by coming into school in non-uniform. This was moved up a notch again as we asked students to wear something yellow and/or blue for Ukraine. Everyone paid £2 with funds being split between Comic Relief and the Ukrainian Humanitarian Appeal.

A fabulous Cake Sale (always a winner here!) was organised by Mrs Brennan with all proceeds going to Comic Relief. I will let you know how much we raised in my next bulletin! Thanks to all staff and students for making the effort and giving so generously!

Here’s another link for ways to talk to your teenager about Ukraine:

Parents’ Association

Please can I send out another request, further to my last bulletin, for volunteers to get involved in the Altrincham College Parents Association (ACPA)? If you can give a small amount of time to help we would be enormously grateful! Our school production of “Bugsy Malone” is coming up shortly and promises to be a great event – this might be something you would like to help out at by serving refreshments? As we return to some semblance of normality there will be lots more things parents and carers can get involved with and we would really appreciate your support.

Please email headteacher@altrinchamcollege.com if you’d like to get involved! Everyone welcome! Thank you.

Anti-Bullying Focus:

Next Monday is International Anti-Racism Day. There is a difference between being “non-racist” and being “anti-racist”. For more information to discuss with your child, this short You Tube piece sums it up: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jm5DWa2bpbs

To mark this day, Form Tutors will be discussing this theme with their form group using Powerpoint presentations put together by our students.

We are proud to be a diverse school community and wish to celebrate the gifts and talents of all our students and staff equally. You can support this by talking with your child about what they have learned on Monday and also what they are learning throughout the year via assemblies and PSHE lessons. Thank you!

Student Successes!

The Year 9 Football Team played a brilliant game last week against Wellington! They came back from 2-0 down at half time to win the game 3-2. Chris A scored an amazing goal 3 minutes from the end! Jordan M was also brought in at the last minute and played amazingly well – great work Jordan!

The team are now through to the Quarter Finals and will play Ashton on Mersey on 22nd or 23rd March. Please keep an eye out for these talented players in future games! Well done to everyone!

Harry St-R (Y9) was successful at the British Gymnastics competition last week in London, and is now through to the British Gymnastic Championships this weekend in Liverpool! Congratulations Harry!

Stars of the Week

This week’s Star of the Week goes to Subhi M (Year 7)! Subhi has been nominated by Mrs Oates because she has completed the maths Parallel challenge every single week this year (currently on Challenge 22.) This is a real stretch-and-challenge activity, that she has had to be self-motivated and resilient to take on. The Parallel project is run by Simon Singh and an add-on to the “Top Top Set Project”. It is aimed at stretching the brightest students in top sets in state-maintained schools. For more information visit: https://parallel.org.uk/

Subhi has also been around school this week raising money for Comic Relief with “Guess the number of sweets in the jar”. At 20p a go, she has raised almost £30 this week! Well done Subhi – you’re a STAR!

Staff Star of the week nominations were Mr Smith, Miss Mitchelmore, Mr Mee, Mrs Armitage, Mrs Shields, Mr Thomas and the Admin Team but the winner this week is…. Mr Mahmood! Our Head of Business Studies has been nominated for his positivity, dynamism, and for being an ace team leader! Many congratulations Mr Mahmood from your colleagues and students!

Mr Mahmood wasn’t available for a photo today so here’s a photo of Mr Madden, last week’s Star of the Week instead (we’re in our yellow and blue for Ukraine!).

Department in Focus

This week’s Department in Focus is the Drama department! Not ones to do things by halves, their information is on a separate attachment to this bulletin – it was too big to fit in here! Please have a read and see all the wonderful things they are doing!

Thank you to all our parents and carers for your continued support of our school!

Have a lovely weekend!
