Welcome to the RE Department
Within the RE department we encourage and engage students to reach their full potential by fostering an open environment in which personal opinions and ethics are discussed in a non-confrontational manner, with all lessons taught in dedicated classrooms in the Humanities/Maths block.
Meet the RE Department
The department team consists of two members of staff. These are:
|Ms R Beattie||Head of Department|
|Miss L Moore||Teacher of Religious Education|
All students study RE in one lesson per week and sit two GCSE examinations at the end of year 11. Unlike many other subjects, Key Stage 3 relates solely to Year 7 and 8, with Key Stage 4 beginning in Year 9.
The GCSE course is comprised of two units entitled Religion and Life and Religion and Society. Although these units do focus on Christianity and Islam, non-religious views are very much discussed, with the Edexcel curriculum covering a wide variety of topics relating to religion and real life issues.
Throughout the course, our students will also consider controversial issues such as abortion and euthanasia and the changing nature of the family in the UK.
In Year 10 we discuss the social and religious changes within the UK and the role of religion and medical ethics.
In Year 11 we study the issues of peace, conflict, crime and punishment. In order to facilitate this, we expect students to have a full set of equipment.
See links for further details relating to each Key Stage.
