Year 7 French Spelling Bee

Wednesday 18th March 2015

Year 7 pupils finish an outstanding 5th place in the Regional Final of the Foreign Language Spelling Bee!

Yesterday, Mrs Hall and Languages Assistant Agathe, took a talented group of Year 7 students to Manchester Metropolitan University, to compete in the Regional Final of the Foreign Language Spelling Bee.

Competing against schools from across Manchester, Liverpool and Leeds, our pupils came a highly respectable 5th place.

The competition is designed for students in Year 7 to practise & improve their vocabulary, as well as to develop their spelling and memory skills in a foreign language, by translating the words from English and spelling them in the target language in front of a full audience.

The entrants were tasked with learning 50 words per stage in their chosen language, and although we didn’t reach the National Finals this year, we are all tremendously proud of their effort and achievement, in reaching the regional final.

The students were elated too, as not only did they preform outstandingly, they were also presented with a goody bag at the end of the competition.

This is an excellent example of how, as a school, we are dedicated to extending the learning and development opportunities of all our pupils, and we endeavour to continue offering student the opportunity to excel in a number of areas, both inside and outside the classroom.
