Daily bulletin: Tuesday 24th March

Please read:

Dear Parents/Carers,

STAY SAFE; STAY AT HOME

School has been open again today providing care and support for the children of key workers and vulnerable children. Numbers were fewer than yesterday but we are happy to remain open for as long as possible to support families. I will let you know if school cannot open for any reason.

There have been a few queries further to my letter earlier today about how Ofqual might award exam grades for students in KS4 and 5. This is obviously a concern to both families and schools but the information contained in my letter is all we currently have to share with you. I do believe things will develop from here so that many forms of data are used rather than solely Mock grades. Our staff know the students well and know about any difficulties they may have experienced over the past few years or are currently dealing with. I am hopeful that all of this will be taken into consideration when schools are asked to submit information. The Headteachers’ Union, ASCL, are discussing the matter with Ofqual and the Government today so I will keep you updated as I receive further information.

Students in Y11 and 6th Form will be receiving further work, reading and other tasks over the coming months to ensure a smooth transition to their next steps. Please ask your child to keep checking ClassCharts and other forms of communication from their teachers.

It is important that this week, students in all year groups establish good working patterns for the weeks/months ahead. May I remind you about the suggested timetable sent out last week to help young people plan their time productively? If you have any comments about what’s working well in your house, please email me and we can share as appropriate in the bulletin!

Apparently, Lenin said: “There are decades where nothing happens, and there are weeks where decades happen”….the past 7 days have been just that! The weather, birdsong and spring flowers however are things we can all take time to notice this week in order to lift our spirits.

Wishing you a relaxing evening.

Kind regards,

Ms Kim Earle
