Gain hands-on relevant work experience through a Paid Placement

and build your industry network…YINI can help!

What’s YINI? The Year in Industry (YINI) scheme helps to place students into paid placements and we have opportunities in the North West area that will start next Aug/Sept 2019 for 10-12 months.

Mechanical and Electrical Engineering roles at one company:

This company is a leading agriculture company helping to improve global food security by enabling millions of farmers to make better use of available resources. Through world class science and innovative crop solutions, our 28,000 people in over 90 countries are working to transform how crops are grown.   We are committed to rescuing land from degradation, enhancing biodiversity and revitalizing rural communities.

  • Reliability engineering – understanding why things break down and finding solutions e.g. equipment availability, root cause analysis, defect elimination, life-cycle maintenance cost, criticality studies for ‘must have’ components and overall effective equipment management.
  • Lean engineering – identifying and eliminating activities that add no value to our customers.
  • Compliance – ensuring that we meet the regulatory requirements of external standards (e.g. the Health & Safety Executive).
  • Obsolescence – renewal of time-expired equipment.

Electrical Engineering role:

Working with a world-leading innovator in power engineering solutions, designed to make the management and operation of electricity assets more efficient, reliable and safe, at lower cost.

This role will include a combination of exciting (but sometimes hard work!) onsite and offsite work.  Some of the more mundane work such as condition assessment of electricity towers, or analysis of partial discharge waveforms, is also included.  However, in general this is an excellent opportunity to gain experience of some real-world engineering, find out what it is like to work in live high voltage substations or manage large electrical equipment in the field.

If you like fixing gadgets, building hardware like PCs, programming or working with electronics, circuits for example then this would be an ideal placement for you!

Here are some examples of YINI Placements;

Christopher O’Neil, had this to say about his placement –

“After completing my YINI in 2015, I have been able to gain an IET Power Academy scholarship with the company for the duration of my degree in Electronic and Electrical Engineering. This has consisted of yearly summer placements. Such experience has provided me with a greater appreciation and understanding of material covered in university whilst kick-starting my professional career. Through which I have been able to build upon the knowledge and experience gained during my YINI.”

Hazel Crookston – now working in Procurement at a large Engineering Company“Did my YINI Placement with Scottish Power back in 2011! Was the best experience and placement to do before starting uni :)” – LinkedIn YINI Group

As a Placed YINI student you’ll receive mentor support, could gain an industrial accreditation plus have a chance to attend a range of Master Class Workshops to support your personal development and work-ready skills.

If you’d like to be considered for any of STEM roles or other roles focused on Business, Management, finance or marketing for example, then you just need to register with YINI as soon as possible and we’ll take you through the registration process. Registration is free.

We look forward to your registration!

Kind regards

Kathryn
