Altrincham College of Arts - To Know To Care To Live

Visits

VISIT TO SOUTH AFRICA - FEBRUARY 2009

Altrincham College of Arts has recently formed a partnership with De Rust Futura Academy in Grabouw, South Africa. The Afritwin organisation links schools in Africa and Europe so that pupils and teachers can learn from other cultures, forge new friendships and gain a new perspective on life. We want our pupils to have contact with the wider world and become true members of our global village. Afritwin encourages tolerance and understanding by giving the pupils the opportunity to develop global citizenship and life skills.

Four members of staff were lucky enough to travel to South Africa in February 2009 to meet the pupils and staff at De Rust Futura Academy. They received a very warm welcome from the Principal, Wandred Theunis and his dedicated team. The pupils at DRFA were delighted to have visitors at their school and enjoyed receiving lessons from Ms White, Mr Miranda, Mr Kevan and Mrs Kay. ACA staff had the opportunity to visit the beautiful rural surroundings in Grabouw and also visited Table Mountain and Robben Island on a day trip to Cape Town.

Pupils at school will learn about their partner school in PHSE and whole school assemblies. A reciprocal visit from DRFA staff is planned for this academic year which will provide further opportunities for staff to share good teaching practice and pupils to learn about a different culture. We hope to send a group of pupils to South Africa in the future so that they can experience the warm, friendly atmosphere at DRFA and have the exciting experience of visiting a new country.
